11+ Results Are Out - What Do I Do Next?

Congratulations on completing your 11+ journey! By now, you will have received your child’s results. This is a fantastic achievement, and you should be incredibly proud of all the hard work and dedication your child has shown throughout their 11+ preparation. While receiving the 11+ results is a huge milestone, there is still one important step ahead: submitting the local authority preference form. Once submitted, you’ll find out in March if your child has secured a place at their chosen grammar school.

What to Do Next: Submitting Your School Preferences

Now that you have your 11+ results, the next step is to complete the local authority preference form. This form allows you to list the schools you would like your child to attend. Be sure to submit the form by the national closing date 31st of October, to ensure your child is considered for a place. Having worked with local authorities, they appreciate entries ideally by mid-October.

Top Tip: List schools in the order you genuinely prefer, as this will be important during the allocation process. If you were a member at KSOL, give our educational team a call for further guidance and advice.

What Happens After You Submit the Form?

Once the local authority preference form is submitted, you’ll need to wait until March to find out if your child has been offered a place at one of the schools. Achieving a qualifying score in the 11+ exam is crucial, but admissions also depend on factors such as available spaces, pupil premium and individual school catchment areas. This waiting period is normal, and final school placements will be confirmed in the Spring.

Stay Positive and Celebrate Your Child’s Achievements

Even though the final decision won’t come until March, now is the time to celebrate your child’s result whatever it may be. It’s always best to talk about all of your child’s school options in a positive way. This journey isn’t just about the result; it’s about the growth, resilience, and skills your child has developed along the way. Regardless of the outcome, these qualities will serve them well as they continue through their secondary journey.

Looking Ahead

While waiting for the final school allocation, continue supporting your child’s academic growth. This is a great time to reinforce the foundations they built during their 11+ preparation and keep them engaged in learning. Encourage your child to stay curious and enjoy their studies as they move into the next phase of their education.

At KSOL, we are proud of all our students and their achievements. Remember, the 11+ results are just one part of a larger educational journey, and no matter the outcome in March, exciting opportunities lie ahead for your child, and we are here to help!
